Churches have walked in this part of Lancashire for some 150 years. They were in fact very competitive events, churches vied for having the best bands and banners. Well over a thousand walkers from one church was common. There was no cooperation!
After the walk, there was often a sports day and the traditional drink and a bun
Today walkers are much fewer and the Audenshaw churches walk together as a group, stopping to sing appropriate Whitsuntide hymns
