The Society was formed in 2000 by a small group of people interested in the history of their town. We now have some fifty members who meet on the last Monday of each month in Ryecroft Hall on Manchester Road.
This website is aimed at giving our activities greater publicity.
Membership subscriptions are £5.00 per year single, £8.00 per year family, and £10.00 per year postal which includes magazines, newsletters etcetera.

This site is listed in the British Towns and Villages Encyclopaedia of Great Britain and we can be found in the entry for Audenshaw

Aldwyn School’s History of Ashton Moss Project

In conjunction with the Kindling Trust, Aldwyn school are starting a project to make a calendar for 2011 showing the history of food growing on Ashton Moss. This will involve interviewing people who remember the moss as a fertile source of food, and presumably looking at local records of the nineteenth century. The project will be led by Fiona Dunk who has worked on a similar project in Whalley Range. If you or anyone you know of particular interest who might like to be involved in this exciting project or volunteer to help with the interviews please contact Fiona at fbusy@phonecoop.coop. The contact at the school is Caroline Charnock.
